How to Install Wine 4 on Fedora 30/29/28

Welcome to our guide on how to install Wine 4 on Fedora 30/29/28. Wine is an open source software that allows you to run Microsoft Windows applications on Linux. Step 1: Add WineHQ repository

Start by adding WineHQ repository with the latest stable packages for Wine.{text-align:left} img{margin:0 auto 0 0}

Fedora 29:

sudo dnf -y install dnf-plugins-core
dnf config-manager --add-repo

Fedora 30:

dnf config-manager --add-repo

Fedora 28:

dnf config-manager --add-repo

Step 2: Install Wine 4 on Fedora 30/29/28

After adding the repository, install any of the following Wine 4 packages on Fedora 30/29/28.

Stable branch:

sudo dnf -y install winehq-stable

Development branch:

sudo dnf install winehq-devel

Staging branch:

sudo dnf install winehq-staging

More information on installed package can be checked with the rpm command.

$ rpm -qi winehq-stable

The version of wine installed can also be checked using.

$ wine --version

To configure wine, run:

$ winecfg

Step 4: Install winetricks

Winetricks is a helper script to download and install various redistributable runtime libraries needed to run some programs in Wine. These may include replacements for components of Wine using closed source libraries.

chmod +x winetricks
sudo mv winetricks /usr/local/bin/

That’s awesome. Now visit the Wine Application Database which has over 20,000 applications and choose the ones to run in Wine.{text-align:left} img{margin:0 auto 0 0}
